Welcome to Falden’s Forge. This is where I, Eric Falden, hammer out my stories, guide you through the mists of the past, and explore fantastical worlds.
I write short tales of epic fantasy, and in between I explore the intersections of history and the fantasy genre.
I’m glad you’re here.

Falden’s Fiction:
All my stories…
… are set in the same world
… should take about 10 minutes to read (give or take).
… are stand-alone, so they can be read in any order.
You can browse all of them right here under my Short Stories & Fiction section.
However, I have a collection of loosely-connected stories—called “The Delver”—in progress. These can also be read in any order, but should reward returning readers. If that’s your jam, it starts here.
Commentaries:
When I’m not writing fiction for you, I’m exploring fantasy narratives, often through the lens of historically grounded worldbuilding.
Where I explore pre-modern history as a way to challenge our biases about the past, which so often creep into (or out of) speculative fiction.
I also offer some tips so worldbuilders can create “realistically unreal” settings.
Where I explore the fantasy genre more broadly
Specific Commentaries & Reviews
Where I offer comments on specific works of (generally epic) fantasy
Where I (more rarely) venture to give some tips to my fellow writers. I’ll tell you what works for me and why, so you can learn from it or discard it.
I do this hesitantly, since too many do it too readily.
